9/11 MYSTERIES - DEMOLITIONS
Assess the evidence - Ask your own questions Draw your own conclusions. Following the hugely influential film Loose Change 2nd Edition, 9/111 Mysteries asks the questions that mainstream media daren't pose. It presents an argument which - if true - suggests that the events of 9/11 were part of a deliberate hoax designed to provide the pretext for the declaration of the War on Terror. Is 9/11 Mysteries fanciful speculation or could it be revealing 5a devastating reality. "Governments in the past have faked terrorist attacksin order to justify increasing their own power and immunity from challenge by restricting the civil and political rights of their citizens" On the morning of Tuesday 11th September 2001 millions of people around the world watched in disbelief as the WTC events unfolded live on television. The saw huge clouds of smoke billowing over Manhattan as each of the towers collapsed. Was what they had witnessed the result of the planes crashing and the resulting fires? Or were they watching a controlled demolition? Never before in the history of the world has a steel building collapsed due to fire. On this day three buildings did. Descending at free-fall speed, two million tons of steel and concrete cratered the earth killing more than 2700 people. The laws of physics suggest that such an event was impossible. Can we still believe that the impact of two planes cased these symbols of America to pulverize? WTC7, the third building to fall, was not hit by a plane. What occurred on 9/11 is now the most disputed story of the 21st century.

ABSOLUTE WILSON
Chances are you have never heard of Robert Wilson, unless, of course, you followed the Avant-Garde scene of the 60s, 70s and 80s in New York and Europe. Then you'd know that Wilson is probably THE most influential figure of the Experimental Theatre Movement, a creative genius and progressive thinker that brought stage performances into the new era of performance art. As a highly prolific collaborator with some of America's most notorious underground icons like Philip Glass, Tom Waits, David Byrne or William S. Burroughs (all of whom appear in the documentary) Wilson managed to awe the theatre world abroad with spectacles that lasted sometimes as long as a full week. His innovative choreography and completely new approach of visual story telling drew a huge following from places as unlikely as Iran and as far away as Australia.

AIR AUSTRALIA
Australia's aviation history is a saga of daring feats, can-do attitude, pig-headed visionaries, iron-fisted politicians and warring pilots; of humble beginnings and mega deals. The story begins in World War One with the bold young airmen who would later establish Australia's first airlines, in difficult conditions, marred by accidents and fatalities, but highlighted by ground-breaking flights. Behind the scenes, however, battles were fought in boardrooms and with backers and bureaucrats to keep the airlines aloft. Then businessmen replaced aviators at the helm of the companies, and take-overs rather than take-offs became front-page news.

AMANDLA
Amandla! A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony is a soul-stirring film that uses exclusive interviews and rare, never-before-seen film footage to document the vital role that music played in the nearly half-century struggle against apartheid in South Africa. This inspirational documentary, which took nine years to make, is a testimony to the power of song, and its ability to fuel the struggle for freedom. Amandla! weaves together many previously unrecorded songs of liberation - sung anew by men and women who participated in the campaign - into a fabric that also includes newsreel footage of historic speeches and organized rallies. Interpersed with the music are interviews with black and white South African dissidents, and numerous renowned musicians, including former exiles Miriam Makeba, Huga Masekela and Abdullah Ibrahim. In the wake of the bloody confrontations and imprisonment that followed that decree, most notably the 1976 Soweto riots and massacres, the strength of apartheid's grip could be measured in the urgency of the music. Amandla! which means power in the Xhosa language is filled with songs that were so dynamic, persuasive and inspirational that they became anthems for the movement, and as a result, were banned by the government, along with many other popular artists. Although apartheid ended more than a decade ago, memories of brutality and tragedy are never far from the minds of the people interviewed in Amandla! With Mandela's release from captivity and election to the nation's presidency, South African musicians regained their voice. Amandla! shows how modern-day artists have drawn from their troubled history to create new music of freedom and equality. During production, director Lee Hirsch and producer Sherry Simpson compiled hundres of hours of these songs. "No one else has told this part of the story. The government took everything away from people but it couldn't stop them from singing," says Hirsch. Adds Simpson, "Music has been such a powerful force in creating historical social change and South Africa offers the quintessential example of this." Amandla!

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH
Humanity is sitting on a time bomb. If the vast majority of the world's scientists are right, we have just ten years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet's climate system into a tail-spin of epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heat waves beyond anything we have ever experienced - a catastrophe of our own making. If that sounds like a recipe for serious gloom and doom - think again. From director Davis Guggenheim comes the Sundance Film Festival hit, AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, which offers a passionate and inspirational look at one man's commitment to expose the myths and misconceptions that surround global warming and inspire actions to prevent it. That man is former Vice President Al Gore, who, in the wake of defeat in the 2000 election, re-set the course of his life to focus on an all-out effort to help save the planet from irrevocable change. In this eye-opening and poignant portrait of Gore and his "traveling global warming show," Gore is funny, engaging, open and downright on fire about getting the surprisingly stirring truth about what he calls our "planetary emergency" out to ordinary citizens before it's too late. With 2005, the worst storm season ever experienced in America just behind us, it seems we may be reaching a tipping point - and Gore pulls no punches in explaining the dire situation. Interspersed with the bracing facts and future predictions is the story of Gore's personal journey: from an idealistic college student who first saw a massive environmental crisis looming; to a young Senator facing a harrowing family tragedy that altered his perspective; to the man who almost became President but instead returned to the most impassioned cause of his life - convinced that there is still time to make a difference.
Special Features An Update with Former Vice President Al Gore. The Making of An Inconvenient Truth. "I Need to Wake Up" Music Video by Melissa Etheridge. Commentary with Director Davis Guggenheim. Commentary with Producers Laurie David, Laurence Bender, Scott Z Burns, Lesley Chilcott.

AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS
Commissioned as part of a series of documentaries celebrating the centenary of the Statue of Liberty, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS begins with Malle reflecting on his own status as a new American (he had been living in the U.S. for almost ten years and had an American wife and daughter). That reflection leads him to seek out other new immigrants to America. Malle soon realizes how much the face of U.S. immigration has changed: the new arrivals are more likely to come from Asia, Africa or Latin America than from Europe, the traditional source of immigrants. Traveling from Vietnamese communities in California to Indian-run motels in the Deep South, conversing with immigrants ranging from West Indian poet (and future Nobel prize winner) Derek Walcott to a Hispanic astronaut who became a citizen in 1977, Malle sketches the new meanings that the American dream has taken on for these newest Americans.

ANSWERED BY FIRE
Based on true life events and set against the tumultuous lead-up to the 1999 referendum in East Timor and its horrifying aftermath, ‘Answered by Fire’ is a very personal exploration of first-world intervention in third-world traumas.
In 1999, Indonesia agreed to a referendum on the future of East Timor, having occupied the country for 24 years. Two hundred and eighty-two international police officers volunteered to organise and protect the ballot under the United Nations supervision. Security was provided by the Indonesian militia.
Canadian RCMP officer Zoe Brennan, Australian Federal Policeman Mark Waldman and a young East Timorese translator named Ismenio Soares are brought together by the UN's fateful effort to give the Timorese a voice in their own future. Unprepared for the bloody reality, they struggle to protect the Timorese in the chaotic run-up to the vote. Finding themselves entangled in a web of politics amidst an atmosphere of increasing violence and mistrust, these initially reluctant partners become real friends.
In a post-ballot rampage the UN evacuates and Mark and Zoe are forced to abandon Ismenio and his family to a nightmarish fate. Haunted by guilt, the two westerners each find their way back to Timor, driven to make amends to the people the tried and failed to protect.
