HERZOG KINSKI COLLECTION
Two titans of German cinema!
Director Werner Herzog had actor Klaus Kinski formed one of the most infamous pairings in modern cinema, together producing five epic films – Fitzcarraldo, Aguirre, Wrath of God, Nosferatu, Woyzcek and Cobra Verde. Throughout, the pair moved often to the brink of insanity. Here is the definitive collection of the five masterworks emerging out of the tumultuous collaboration between two titans of contemporary film. Included is the documentary My Best Fiend, Herzog’s revealing epitaph to his leading man, inspiration and tormentor.
Films include:
Fitzcarraldo Herzog's gigantic jungle adventure! Rubber baron Fitzcarraldo dreams of bringing together Enrico Caruso and Sarah Bernhardt for an epic celebration of Grand Opera in the jungle.
Aguirre, the Wrath of God A breathtaking journey into the heart of darkness! Kinski plays a crazed Spanish conquistador in an unforgettable portrait of madness and power.
Nosferatu A milestone in international cinema: a dual-language remake of F.W. Murnau's legendary 1922 horror classic Nosferatu. Kinski gives a career-best performance as the vampire Dracula.
Cobra Verde Kinski, in his final collaboration with director Herzog, stars as Cobra Verde, the barefoot South American bandit and slave trader who aspires to be King in his newly-adopted African homeland.
Woyzeck A moving interpretation of Georg Büchner's harrowing play. Kinski again delivers a stunning portrayal of a man’s descent into madness.
My Best Fiend Herzog's oddly tranquil ode to his explosive leading man. Herzog recounts, not only kinski’s on-set ravings and megalomania, but the tender moments underlying their combustible relationship. |

HIGH NOON / ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST / WAR WAGON
High Noon: High Noon has been described as the most perfect western ever made, and sees Gary Cooper in his most memorable role, that would earn him his second Oscar. Cooper plays Will Kane, a Marshall who is hanging up his guns and his 'tin star', to marry and settle down with Amy. Right after the ceremony, however, news arrives that Frank Miller - a killer arrested by Kane - has been pardoned from his sentence, and is now heading toward town on the noon train, intent on revenge. Kane, against the advice of the townspeople and the wishes of his new bride, refuses to leave - he's never run from anything in his life. He tries to find help, but to no avail. The whole town hides behind locked doors. And so he waits alone - to kill or be killed - as the hands on the clock edge ever nearer to noon, and one of the greatest showdowns in movie history.
Once Upon a Time In The West: Sergio Leone's monumental epic Once Upon A Time In The West ranks among the five or six all-time Western masterpieces. The picture itself is as big as its Monument Valley locations, as grand as its fine, distinguished cast. Henry Fonda plays the blackest character of his long career and he's utterly convincing. He's Frank, the ruthless, murderous psychopath who suffers conscience pangs after annihilating an entire family. Jason Robards is the half-breed falsely accused of the terrible slaughter. Charles Bronson plays the harmonica playing man who remembers how his brother was savagely tortured. Brilliantly directed by Leone and accompanied by one of Ennio Morriconne's greatest scores, this glorious picture helped re-establish the Western's significance.
The War Wagon: John Wayne teams up with Kirk Douglas in The War Wagon, an action-packed western filmed in a remote part of Mexico. Wayne plays rancher Taw Jackson who's dead set on capturing an iron-clad stagecoach belonging to cattle baron West Catlin, the man who stole his fortune and good name years before. To pull off the heist, Wayne puts together a crew that includes an old character, (Keenan Wynn), a half-civialized Indian, a young drunk, and a cocky gunfighter. Of course, they manage the impossible to the tune of half a million dollars in gold bullion, accompanied by the music of Academy Award winner Dimitri Tiomkin.
