Real-life couple Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward star in this classic romantic comedy, directed, written, and produced by Melville Shavelson (Yours, Mine and Ours), with a supporting cast that includes Thelma Ritter, Eva Gabor, and Maurice Chevalier who plays himself.

Journalist Steve Sherman meets fashion buyer Samantha Blake on the plane to Paris, and the two clash instantly. When Samantha later undergoes a glamorous makeover, and Steve mistakes her for a high-end call girl, she decides to play along - calling herself Mimi and revelling in the attention. But the more time they spend together, the harder it becomes for either of them to keep up the pretence.
