F.L.Y. DVD.
What happens when the person you thought you'd left behind suddenly becomes the one person you can't escape?
Los Angeles, 2020. Max is a struggling writer trying to navigate life with his attractive new boyfriend, Hunter, when his carefully controlled world is turned upside down by the unexpected arrival of his former partner, Rafael.
The pair haven't seen each other in five years, and their reunion is anything but comfortable. Rafael has moved to Los Angeles with dreams of becoming the next drag superstar, while Max is still carrying unresolved feelings and memories from their complicated past.
Rafael only intends to stay for a short time, but then the COVID-19 pandemic changes everything. As lockdowns begin and the world closes down around them, the former lovers find themselves unexpectedly trapped together under the same roof.
Forced into close quarters, Max and Rafael must confront the history that drove them apart while attempting to navigate their very different lives. Old arguments resurface, buried feelings begin to emerge and the arrival of Rafael's new ambitions - and Max's current relationship - makes their situation even more complicated.
As the days of quarantine stretch on, the two exes begin to see each other in a new light. What initially feels like an impossible situation gradually becomes an opportunity to confront their past, understand how they have changed and discover whether there might still be something worth saving between them.
Adding to the chaos is Rafael's dream of becoming a drag superstar, bringing a vibrant world of performance, self-expression and larger-than-life personalities into the story. The film celebrates the freedom to live authentically while exploring the complicated process of figuring out who you are and what you really want.
Directed and written by Rafael Albarrán and Trent Kendrick, who also star as Rafael and Max, F.L.Y. is a warm, funny and heartfelt queer romantic comedy about love, identity, second chances and finding unexpected opportunities for healing when life refuses to go according to plan.
Featuring Pixie Aventura, Alexeev Dismuke and Shea Diamond, F.L.Y. combines romance, comedy, drag culture and LGBTQIA representation in a story that captures the strange experience of being forced to slow down and reconsider what - and who - really matters.
Premiering at Outfest Los Angeles, the film went on to screen at LGBTQIA festivals including FilmOut San Diego and Melbourne Queer Film Festival, where it was presented as an international feature.
Sometimes the person you least expect can help you find your way home.
